Consequences

Attempting to get an autistic child to develop and learn through a greater and greater emphasis on acquiring social skills is like trying to get a blind person to develop and learn through a greater and greater emphasis on gaining eyesight, the tragedy made all the more poignant by the fact there are alternatives which serve everyone better. Attack autism and it attacks you back. Embrace autism and it embraces you back. Every parent, every advocate, every researcher who joins in the battle against autism does his or her part in contributing to the overall misery.
